Carbon Finance Capacity Building Programme (CFCB)

The CFCB programme encourages the use of Carbon Finance to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in cities, in particular emerging mega cities of the South.

Thanks to the 3-year programme the municipalities of the cities will acquire the know-how to use Carbon Finance for their sustainable development. The focus lies on the development of concrete projects, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and generate carbon credits.

CFCB Programme in São Paulo

From 2-4 May 2010 the City of São Paulo hosted a capacity building workshop at the city hall in collaboration with CFCB and C40/ARUP UrbanLife.

Additional CFCB meetings with the city led to the following outcomes:

  • CFCB showcase project on sustainable solid waste management in slum areas of Sao Paulo with the contribution of Carbon and Climate Finance to be developed based on a feasibility study.
  • High-level city officials will evaluate the best location and integration of a Carbon and Climate Finance knowledge hub within the city's structure. On the project level a local pilot project management team is set up and the city will provide a champion.
